FINAL CHAPTER OF QUEENSLAND STORIES: TOPOLOGY WRAPS UP 25TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS WITH FINAL PERFORMANCE IN BRISBANE
As we approach the culmination of our 25th Anniversary Celebrations, arts organisation Topology will be bringing their main-stage performance of Queensland Stories to BRISBANE this October 18.
Topology musicians will perform Queensland Stories live at the iconic Red Hill Cinemas in the heart of Meanjin.
Queensland Stories presents a live music experience combining film, photography and storytelling in a poignant documentation of the people, the landscapes, and the stories that make up Queensland.
Since 1997 Topology have pushed the boundaries of music making, creating genre-defying onstage works that combine music, theatre, dance and more, establishing themselves as leaders in musical creativity. Famous for the breadth and depth of their collaborations, the award-winning quintet have created stunning new works with the likes of William Barton, Kate Miller-Heidke, the Kransky Sisters, Dead Puppet Society and more, as well as producing sixteen albums of adventurous music.
“Queensland Stories means a lot to us as it’s a culmination of so much of what has made Topology special over the last 25 years – the people we’ve met and the relationships we’ve built, and the stories we’ve heard and shared,” said John Babbage, Topology founding member, musician and composer. “After touring the show regionally for almost two years, it’s been an epic adventure full of wonderful trips around the state, sharing the stories and lived experiences of those residing in regional Queensland. We can’t wait to share these with you on stage at the Red Hill Cinema.”
For this final chapter of Queensland Stories, Topology will be showcasing original compositions from their Launchpad program. Launchpad is a scholarship program offering one-on-one creative mentorship and professional development to up to 6 emerging composers and/or songwriters each year. “I’m incredibly excited for Topology to be premiering my piece ‘Where Land and Sky Meet’ written as part of Launchpad, and I think it will fit in well to the program as it is inspired by a trip through regional Queensland,” said Launchpad mentee, Abigail Lui. “The mentorship provided through Launchpad has been so beneficial for extending and diversifying my compositional practice.”
“Queensland Stories takes the audience on a journey, a look at everyday life in rural and remote Queensland. The ups, the downs and everything in between” said Christa Powell, Creative Director. “Visiting over 200 communities in the past 25 years, we have had the privilege to really get to know people living in remote and rural Queensland. We have had the privilege of being able to create some amazing new works that tell the stories of the challenges, opportunities, setbacks and victories that are the daily life of regional Queenslanders. We have learned so much and have been inspired by these communities and how they navigate through drought, flood – all the natural disasters. And add to that, a world-wide pandemic!”
The performance by Topology will showcase the music, film, photography and digital stories created as part of Topology’s regional creative programs over the past two decades. The show includes new works written by local communities from all over Queensland including Stanthorpe, Texas, Dalby, Bundaberg, Childers, Mount Isa, Innisfail, and Nanango.
