Kylie studied piano with Max Olding and Yefim Stesin at the Queensland Conservatorium (B.Mus 1988), winning the Brisbane Eisteddfodd, and with William Corbett-Jones at the San Francisco State University (1995). She has studied vocal music in Kerala, South India, with Kavalam Narayana Pannikkar.

Kylie has given premieres of many solo piano works and is often to be found secretly playing Chopin Nocturnes.
