Topology & The Kransky Sisters: All New Show

Opposites attract in this oddball yet brilliant musical journey.

Brace yourselves as the musically macabre Kransky Sisters tweak and twist our favourite contemporary chamber ensemble, Topology, in ways they’ve never been tweaked and twisted before.

When Topology needed a tuba player for their upcoming Brisbane Powerhouse concert, they invited The Kransky Sisters’ strangely reclusive sibling, Dawn Kransky, to play.

Dawn will take leave from her job as trolley librarian at the Esk hospital to play with the quintet. Dawn’s older sisters, Mourne and Eve, insist on driving her down from Esk in the Morris to chaperone, resulting in a comically oddball new music venture.

The two ensembles fight for centre stage, until they “accidentally” join together to perform a spontaneously selected mix of familiar tunes which have been given very special treatment.

AIRWAVES with Loops @ Brisbane Powerhouse

Topology and Loops (Melbourne) collaborate to in a mammoth retrospective of key moments in radio’s 100 year history. Key speeches are transformed into song. We hear Clinton, Einstein, Freud, Malcolm X, MLK, Hitler, Gandhi, Churchill, George VI and many others speaking, but framed in music to sound like they’re singing. The piece highlights the musical nature of speech, and how it subconsciously charges the emotions through melody.

Airwaves was not only entertaining musically, it provided food for thought. It was hard not to leave the performance without feeling rather philosophical about the forces that impel us, and how powerful these can be when they combine human will, art and technology. The show, in the end a kind of multi-character radio opera” – New Straits Times, Singapore
